Across retail right now, teams are working on similar business priorities. All of it is accelerating, all of it is touching customer data, and most of it is arriving on the security team’s desk after the decision has already been made.
Add to that increasing pressure from boards mandating greater AI adoption across the business and an expectation that security reduces its risk appetite to match. The CISO is being asked to enable faster, not slower, while the threat picture is moving in the opposite direction.
Meanwhile in April, Anthropic announced a model that found thousands of zero-day vulnerabilities across every major operating system and browser. OpenAI followed within weeks with comparable capabilities.
So we’re managing two things at once, an internal governance problem and an external threat landscape that just shifted materially.
